Other-Wordly is a slim volume which collects words, not necessarily in English, that explain or capture something elusive and something beautiful. These words are accompanied by exquisite illustrations from Kelsey Garrity-Riley that serve to depict the meaning of the word in pictures.
One of my favourite words collected in the volume is:
Komorebi (noun, Japanese)
the sunlight that filters through the leaves of the trees.
How beautiful is that? The book is exquisitely made, not that this is a surprise since it is from Chronicle Books. The illustrations are bright and evoke a kind of wistful nostalgia from a quieter time when you can live life enjoying every single bit of it.
This would make a wonderful gift to really anybody. Maybe a Christmas present, maybe a just-because-it’s-Monday present. Get it for yourself. It stands up to several rereadings.
