The Swing is adapted to board book format by Julie Morstad. Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem is a favourite among kids already.

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside—

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

But pairing the poem up with Morstad’s delicious art elevates the poem. I felt like a child while reading this, felt the wind rushing against my cheeks and felt the brief and precious freedom that comes with being on the swing.

Buy this one for your child or any child in your life. Read it with them. Experience the beauty of childhood once again through the images and the words.
