Summer TBRs, huh? I kinda suck at TBRs because I will end up reading everything besides what is on the list. It’s a failing. But I do like making lists and it is going to be Ramadan soon and I will have a lot of time to read so let’s make a list of books I wish to read this summer.

1. The Seven Realms Quartet by Cinda Williams Chima
   Because I’ve been wanting to for so long and I actually have all four books so why not? Right?
2. In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken
   I enjoyed the first two very much and would like to complete this trilogy and call it read.
3. Rivals in the City by Y. S. Lee
   While we’re talking about completing series, it would be good to read this as well. I’m a bit scared because I’ve read some really negative reviews even from fans of the series but I’m hoping they were having bad days and I like this one a lot more.
4. The Secret History by Donna Tartt
   I just really want to read a title by her.
5. The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
   I read the first one and enjoyed it.
6. The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier
   I’ve been wanting to read this for a very long while now. I even own the book so I’m not sure why exactly I haven’t read it.
7. The Butterfly Mosque by G. Willow Wilson
   What initially got me interested in Wilson were quotes from this memoir in an article she wrote for some publication and my mom has read it and loved it.
8. The Prophet by Khalil Gibran
   I got this one for my mom for mother’s day and she read it straight after and finished it. This rarely happens so I must read the book and see what the fuss is all about.
9. The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
   I decided that I’d read some Amy Tan this year and I’m going to do it.
10. Beloved by Toni Morrison
    This is probably going to kill me but I’ll die happy. I hope?

I’m rubbish at TBRs. Picture a seagull hopping around. Ooh, this looks shiny! Ooh, there’s something bright over there! Ooh, now that smells good! Organized behaviour? Not so much. However, having a plan is a good reminder to get to the books I want to read (I really do) but was seagull/crow/magpie-like distracted from by other books. Therefore:

1. The Watsons Go To Birmingham – 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. The first chapter had me laughing out loud. Knowing intellectually that this is an important book was not nearly as effective a motivation as a taste of the personalities and quirks of Kenny and his family.
2. One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams Garcia. And then P.S. Be Eleven.
3. A few more of Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar books. I stumbled across (for the first time since my early undergrad) The Mage Storms trilogy, and this time I have access to all of them (ahem, rather than one Mage Winds book and two Mage Storms, not in order).
4. Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed. Yash convinced me and the library has already turned its copy into my hands. (The library is FANTASTIC.)
5. Princess Decomposia and Count Spatula by Andi Watson. This has been on my list since Nafiza wrote about it.

TBR! They just get so long!

1. The rest of the Matt Cruse Airborne series by Kenneth Oppel, I’m almost finished the first so I’d like to read the rest – it’s really good!
2. I’ll Give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson- because so many people recommend it to me and it’s won awards and well, that means I should read it. It also helps that it’s already on my shelf.
3. Wonder by Palacio – again, tons of recommendations and I still haven’t gotten around to it. I know that I’ll zip through it as soon as I pick it up though!
4. Little Brother by Cory Doctorow – I just unpacked my copy so it’s there… eyeing me and it’ll probably be my summer dystopia read.
5. The Greenglass House by Kate Milford – I’ve borrowed a co-workers ARC so I gotta read it and return it soon! She said it was quick and cute, so I’m in!
6. The Night Gardener is also on my list and sitting on my shelf!
7. More of the Flavia De Luce mysteries by Alan Bradly, I’ve listened to the first one and I suspect I’ll download (borrow from the audio-library) and listen to a couple more this summer. :)

Ooh! This works out perfectly thanks to the book challenge I’ve started doing on Instagram! Here are the books I intend to read this summer:

1. Diverse Energies edited by Buckell and Monti: I’m in the mood for short stories!
2. The Boy in the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds: I’ve had this one on my list since we discussed the cover.
3. Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers: I couldn’t just not read more Summers after All the Rage. Summers for this summer, I say. :)
4. Scarlett Undercover by Jennifer Latham: I just want something reminiscent of Veronica Mars. I think this might be it. Approaching with cautious optimism.
5. Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moscowitz: Another one from a Cover Wars post. I have a very good feeling about this one.
6. P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han: I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG! Can’t wait to read the Song sisters again!
7. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: I’ve been hearing some pretty good things about this one.
8. I am Princess X by Cherie Priest: Cover Wars, again! I AM SO READY FOR THIS!
9. None of the Above by I. W. Gregorio: Because of this interview.
10. The Prophet by Khalil Gibran: I’ve been wanting to read this one too, Nafiza! There’s also an upcoming animated (I think) film on The Prophet. I’m pretty excited about it. I’m yet to get a copy of this one …
